Leaking jets?
 

Hi Richard. I had the system installed and the installer said he tested for air leaks using 50 psi and there were none. Then, I went for my tune Friday and and they trested for leaks and found one of my 6mm jets was leaking air. It looked to be where the jet screwed into the adaptor or where the adaptor screwed into my top mount.

So they tried welding around the leak and to seal it to the intercooler but this melted the jet. Now they want to order aluminum jets to weld them to my aluminum intercooler.

My installer said there was no way the jets were leaking so I don't know what happened. I thought about it and think I should get two more jets from you and try again rather than welding aluminum jets.

What are your thoughts and have the jets been known to leak when testing for turbo leaks?

Best bet is to by the jet mounting adaptors, I have 6 of these on my manifold and if they`re fitted properly you won`t have any leaks..

Take a picture of the seat of the jet adaptor There should be a small chamfered edge to mate with the o-ring on the jet.

Thanks keithmac for that idea but I've gone ahead and ordered jets and adaptors fron jeff *howerton.*

Richard, I didn't see an o-ring on the jet that wasn't ruined by the welding. Were these rings already on the jet/adaptor or was it something the installer was to put on? I want to make sure I get them from jeff. *

So, you'd like to see a picture of the inside of the adaptor? I'll get that for you. What is a champered edge? Oh, yeah, the tune was abandoned due to the weld melting the jet (see picture). *

I ordered another set from jeff.*

The link didn't quite wotk, but i got a picture from Jeff. The fitting was pretty much melted.

The o-ring is between the thread and the hex body as the picture below:

Alright, thanks Richard. I don't remember seeing an o ring but I didn't install. I ordered new jets and will check them out but I'm sure it'll be good.

We have been putting an o-ring on the jet since 1992. Check the jet before the install.

Did you remember where the leak occured during the tune?

1. Between jet and the adaptor
2. Between the adaptor and induction pipe.

They said it leaked between the jet and adaptor but they thought also a little at the adaptor and pipe. They showed me the leak with soapy water but I couldn't discriminate where the leak was. So I don't know but I can't imagine that it was missing the o-ring when it came from you. All I can do is try again.

What the hell were they trying to do there!.

I`ve tested my system up to 30psi manifold pressure with no air leaks.
