Thank you! Install starts tomorrow as it will be +12C so the weather is on my side!

Please send some install pictures. Check the underboard settings are matching the above drawing just in case.

Is this wiring diagram applicable to the 2011+ N18 engine?

Re: BMW Mini-R56 USDM wiring

I looked into this briefly. The N18 DME is still made by Siemens I cannot verify the the pin out compatibility.

N14 Engine - N14B16AC (171hp / 177 ft-lbs)
* infinitely variable single VANOS (intake only)
* Siemens DME MED17.2 engine management

N18 Engine - N18B16M0 (181hp / 191 ft-lbs)
* infinitely variable double VANOS
* map-controlled oil pump
* variable valve timing (Valvetronic) with 3-phase servomotor and integrated eccentric shaft sensor
* composite camshaft construction
* new piston design
* Siemens DME MEVD17.2.2

Re: BMW Mini-R56 USDM wiring

Hi Richard,

Excuse me for being the first post I've ever made on this forum, but I've had my HFS-4 installed for about 3 weeks now and I wanted to know if I have this set up correctly...

I have a '10 MINI Cooper S and currently I'm running without any type of restrictor and a 0.7mm jet. The injectors in in a R56-S is rated at 380cc. I'm also running a 50w/50m. Have I set up my system right?

Here's an image of my board...

Welcome to the forum.

I think you should put in the 0.7mm restrictor.

The setting looks good. if you have any slight mis-fire at high RPM, please up your meth ratio.

Can you tell me where are you putting the jet?

Re: BMW Mini-R56 USDM wiring

Thanks Richard. I have the jet located just after the MAP sensor. I wanted to place it where Jeff Howerton had placed it in his guide on the hard plastic, but knew it was going to take a bit more work to get the hole set up and it was easier access to place the jet.

I was running a 50m/50w, but now trying a 70m/30w mix.

What would cause the mis-fire at higher RPMs?

Re: BMW Mini-R56 USDM wiring

Did you have a misfire?

Re: BMW Mini-R56 USDM wiring

I haven't with the current setup.

Re: BMW Mini-R56 USDM wiring

I know Jeff was telling me I may bog the engine if it feeds too much water. Should I run a smaller jet instead of going with a restrictor?

Richard L 26-09-2012 11:21 PM

Re: BMW Mini-R56 USDM wiring

smaller jet is always better than a restrictor. Increase the concentration of methanol will minimise the bog.

Re: BMW Mini-R56 USDM wiring

Ah great. Thanks for the help Richard. I'll go to a 0.6mm jet instead and have just started to increase my meth concentration.

Re: BMW Mini-R56 USDM wiring

I finally had the time to install my HFS-4 that i purchased 9months ago. Sure does take some effort to do a clean install. I still have to come up with a tank solution and also tap for the nozzle.

After closing everything back up and starting the engine the car through a check engine light. i don't have a scanner so i can;t read the actual code. After reviewing the jumpers i was able to solve this problem but noticed i don't have enough jumpers to test the system? Pictures show 8 on peoples boxes but mine only has 7 so i can't run the system test.

Also i wish i had a right angle nozzle like a see other mini's use. Makes for a much better fit along the pipe. Might need to look into getting one of these instead of the 3 i currently have. My plan is to install a 0.8 nozzle with the 0.5 restrictor.

Do i need a check valve? Or is the FAV good enough for a one nozzle system in the injection stream.

Re: BMW Mini-R56 USDM wiring

There should be enough jumper links. For the CEL, all you need to do is to move from DR0 to DR1. There is a spare jumper link on the "PRK" position. Jumpers are available from any electronics shop, used commonly on computers.

You can get an right angle jet adaptor from Jeff at www.howertonengineering.com.

You do not need a checkvalve.

Re: BMW Mini-R56 USDM wiring

Spent $200 with Jeff a couple days for some extra parts. Extra jets, some black line to blend into the engine bay more and 2 right angle adapters.

Need to also start working on my tank also which will be an RCI fuel cell from summit racing.

Re: BMW Mini-R56 USDM wiring

Please keep an account of the install. some pics if possible.

Re: BMW Mini-R56 USDM wiring

Is there right angle adapters i could purchase for the pump inlet? My pump location sort of requires it to avoid kinking and contact against the body of the car.

Re: BMW Mini-R56 USDM wiring

Do i not need 3/8 BPSM thread for the pump? that is 1/8"?

brightside 15-01-2013 04:39 PM

Re: BMW Mini-R56 USDM wiring

It that a typo on the website? Just from the scale of things it does look to be 3/8 BSP.

Richard L 15-01-2013 07:13 PM

Re: BMW Mini-R56 USDM wiring

All the aquamist HFS-xxx pump with 3/8BSP-M to 1/8BSP-F adaptor as standard.

Adding this fitting will make the joint very flexible.

Re: BMW Mini-R56 USDM wiring

Ah, ok. This is what happens when you take 8 months to complete the install.

Should i order from you or Jeff?

i'll also start a thread about my install. Waiting for my gauge mount also now.

Richard L 17-01-2013 08:48 AM

Re: BMW Mini-R56 USDM wiring

It is completely up to you. If you have been dealing with Jeff before, you can continue. I am here for your technical support regardless.

Re: BMW Mini-R56 USDM wiring

Both H3 and H4 will work on the new mini. I just don't have the DME pin out details to make a drawing.

I believe they will be the same.

Re: BMW Mini-R56 USDM wiring

I just have it installed in a GP2, so it will work in N18 engines. Now I need to learn how to set it up and read the gauge.

Re: BMW Mini-R56 USDM wiring

This is good news. I was unable to get the new mini DME pinout. Now I don't have to. Thanks for the update.
