My replies applies to any gauge or any UEGO system, if you do have a datum or reference to compare with, it is meaningless to observe details.

The only system that can accuately be monitored is an "all-on/all-off" system.

Re: Running Pure Meth - Use UEGO as failsafe?

Richard L - I was planning to monitor it when it's under full boost which should also be at max w/m. Ie. 6krpm peek at AFRs, it leaner than normal = problem. I already do this from time to time, habit I guess lol.

I would think that meth should be flowing at max when peak boost is achieved and definitely should be at max flow at higher RPMs. I don't think I'd need to monitor the whole RPM/boost range.

Anyways I'll try it out when I get my kit and decide whether to get a failsafe system.

Keith - I'll definitely get a AFR based failsafe if I do decide to get a failsafe system. Kills two birds with one stone (monitors both fuel and w/m at the same time). Probably IsacAlky, but its more than I need. Just need something that can reference boost/AFR and provide a signal to cut boost.

Thank you all for the insight regarding this matter :)

Edit: I think I just figured out a way to use my piggyback to use AFR/boost/RPM as a failsafe :)

That is a much sensible approach, monitoring a location where you have reached a full capacity. You basically monitor one point, hardign wourth getting a guage. You can get a flow switch at much lower cost and achieve the same result.

This method will only work if you have a progressive boost only system. But beware the afr will be different under different gears.

I made my own failsafe with 2 transistors,a potentiometer and a 5 pin relay, was a while back but it cost less than ?10 for the bits..

I'm leaning towards the AFR approach because it'l tell me if there's something wrong with the whole fuel system, not just the w/m system. But I might just try the flow switch approach. Thanks for the idea :)

I'm planning on using a Hobbs switch, 5v relay and use piggy for 2D afr/rpm signal - crude but should work at full boost :)

Other topic. Is the pump flow directly related to voltage? (ie. 8volts = 50% flow; 12volts = 100% flow) Or does the controller send pulses to control flow?

Monitoring AFR is only effective if you run high ratio of methanol and water does not affect AFR. Unfortunately, water has twice amount of latent heat properties than meth. If you run 50:50, you may need an EGT probe as well.

Only the aquamist 2d system provide a pump flow signal relative to valve opening duration. On other systems, you need a flow sensor (progressive) or flow switch (over or under flow)

Here is a picture of a typical flow switch:

I still think you should stand back and look at the system as a whole rather focus on a small section within a system.

Power output for the water injection was 577 rwhp / 514 rwtq, versus 608 rwhp / 535 rwtq for Boost Juice, and 616 rwhp / 542 rwtq for straight methanol.

^ Bump from hell ^

Note the linked article is lacking. There was one big error there, tuning to 'knock limit' but leaving the excess fuel ratio at levels that are not adequate for a WM50 engine to make maximum power, this is well founded and documented nearly everywhere.

If this was done correctly and the biggest caveat that I have been saying for decades! is you run the correct ignition system (CDI need only apply) then and only then can you assess true power potentials (of all fluids), and if it was done this way even they would find WM50 is superior in every aspect, and pure 'meth' is a rookies choice, mostly always picked due to other system short falls (misfire being #1)

You tune the engine, it does not tune you ;)
