Larger pre-pump hose?

I remember reading about a certain install that Aquamist had to use bigger tubing from the tank to the pump. The local home center has up to 10mm tubing, and was looking at using it for a surge tank to big tank because of gravity, and there are even fittings for the pump threads. I was wondering if a larger pre-pump hose would reduce stress on the pump and give it a longer life.

The larger the hose the better, if space is not a problem. If you are injecting in excess of 1 litre per minute. 8 or 10mm hose will be prefered. I am referring to the large aquatec pump.

Were there any tests done to see when cavitation started?

No test done.

But did notice bigger pressure drop than normal beyond ~1200cc/min flow.

What pump are you referrng to?

Richard, last question, would a longer distance from the tank to pump require more or less internal diameter? I don't know which way I need to think about it.

Re: Larger pre-pump hose?

You need larger diameter for longer run. It is not ideal to have long run between tank and pump.

OK, so I was thinking right. Thank you.
