Source of methanol in the UK
I'm looking for a commercially available windscreen mix in the UK that contains methanol.
They've apparently all changed the packaging and contain no information on ingredients. (Bastids  ) Despite the rumours that "Holts" windscreen concentrate does contain methanol, I've just had confirmation from the factory that it DOES NOT. Apparently methanol-based products have been withdrawn from the market, so if the label doesn't state it explicitly, you have to assume that it hasn't got it. |
Hi,
so where do you get the methanol from? Im in the UK and installing a WI system, habent looked into where to get it from yet so any info would be helpful, Phil http://replica-cobra.co.uk |
Please try the following:
Methanol sources: - Alcohols Ltd on 01279 658464 25L: ?44.00 205L: ?105.14 - Pertolchem on 0208 879 3090 - Cotswold Chemicals 01453 825292 5L: ?7.70 25L: ?26.04 205L: ?61.00 It will be easier if you look in the yellow pages for your local Chemical Dispenser Supplier and you can pick them up. Get a spare container so that you can dilute it before storing it - Dimin water is also very cheap from them - ?5-8 per 25L drum |
thanks for that, will have a look through the Yellow Pages,
Phil |
Model airplanes run on methanol (hint-hint)
I paid about ?6/gallon. Make sure it's pure, and not mixed with oil! If you use the stock windscreen reservoir, remember that many fumes will enter the cabin. Methanol is toxic, and doesn't smell. I chickened out and went for 90%water 10%methanol, mainly for antifreeze purposes. If you use a dedicated tank for the stuff, make sure it's plastic (methanol attacks aluminium) |
I can get 50 litres of methanol for approx 55 quid
if anyone is interested i will arange it Mike. |
indeed i get my methonal from the local hobby shop(pure no oil)
its about ?5 a gallon. can i just check tho i have a aliminum tank and i plan on using about a 70/30 water/meth mix. will that be ok in the ali tank??? Glen |
it will corrode an ally tank :(

Cotswolds Chemicals
Ive sourced my methanol and di water from cotswold chemicals.
50 ltrs of each for ?86 delivered, thats 86p per ltr, isnt that roughly what we pay for petrol, i dont really pay that much attention to be honest. |
Jennychem - 01634 290770
Methanol is just over ?30/25L Isopropanol is ?38/25L Free delivery on 50L. Andrew... |
Try a search on Ebay UK for methanol, there is a guy on there who sells it. I have ordered some outside of Ebay for ?25.85 for 5 gallons. One drum went for ?12.50 on Ebay.
Now the downside, collection only in Manchester. |
WOOOOOW HI RICHARD here I am... ( DANIELE ) :D at least I entered the forum...
Well... first notice... I Know this is not the topic but... ALFA 1.9 M.Jet "FERRARIS" 207 HP Thanks to Aquamist... now we're on track very very much here in Italy. I supply also the mixture for the diesel cars  getting faster  |
Has anyone found a supplier in the North West or North Wales for methanol and (maybe) toluene. The seller I found on Ebay seems to not be able to supply methanol now and I want to be able to make some octane booster for cheaper than you can buy off the shelf (methanol cannot be used in high enough concentrations with petrol as fuel additive because it damages the catalysts)
|
I buy my methanol from a local RC model shop (near Bournemouth), they don't always have it in stock but get it in a day or so. I rang all the local shops until I found one that could supply.
I pay about ?5 a gallon  |

Jennychem were really helpful and very reasonable on delivery charge :D
|
If anybody in Ireland is looking for Methanol or Toluene I buy both from a company in Dublin who deliver it to my work address, I'm not sure if they sell small volumes as I usually chip in with a few friends for a barrel.

Re: Source of methanol in the UK
Have just found this (February 2013):
http://www.reagent.co.uk/methanol........ ?23.00/25L http://www.dtchemicals.co.uk/index.p...uct_detail&p=2 ....... ?89/205L http://www.dtchemicals.co.uk/index.p...uct_detail&p=1 ....... ?16/25L Warning dtchemical charges a lot on delivery add VAT and shipping. |
Re: Source of methanol in the UK
DT chemicals 205L drum ends up costing ?165.60 delivered with VAT, but I think this is only if you have a forklift for unloading it as we do, the site is not very clear on this or perhaps I'm just a bit thick, lol.
Cheers! |
Re: Source of methanol in the UK
A big drum is relatively easy to roll if you have a flat surface. As long as the delivery vehicle has a tail lift so you can get the drum on the ground, you shouldnt have any real problems.
