HFS-3 Tests O.K., but No Bar.Graph During.Operation
Hi guys, hope you can help figure out something for me.
I have an HFS-3 bought about early 2018: -All the electrical connections test ok and everything seems to work correctly. -The FIDC test with the gauge shows that a 1:1 ratio best mimics fuel injectors under power according to the gauge display. -The SC trimmer appears to operate correctly according to the gauge. -The spray test with a single large (.9mm) jet seems to work properly under FIDC, and I can also hear the pump turn on during spray. But there is no bar graph display when under FIDC, in normal operation. Even with the SC trimmer in any position. The bar graph did adjust in the test mode connection for SC trimming, and the bar graph worked during the IDC pre-scale ratio testing mode connection under power as well. During operation with the dfs linked the gauge shows both the S and B lights on. Here is the setup of the system: 2 jets, one between the I/C and TB and one pre-turbo. The HP jet calculation is approx 1.3mm for my HP application. The current jets are .6mm post I/C and .5mm pre-turbo for a start with testing. Something I did notice though. (dfs still linked) With both jets connected, as a test I disconnected the line to the pre-turbo jet (the longest of the hoses) and ran it to one of my spare jets (the same .9mm jet I used for initial testing and approx same hose length) placed again under the wiper. The spray itself seemed to be lighter/less than when I did the initial test as a single jet system. Any help in something I may have overlooked or a possible problem would be appreciated, can't set fail safes or be comfortable without a properly working bar graph. Thanks ahead Mark. |

Re: HFS-3 Tests O.K., but No Bar.Graph During.Operation
Also did another test,
Unlinked the DFS Turned the WL fully counter clockwise Turned the WH fully clockwise Upon acceleration the Water Level light turns on as soon as the pump activates. This happened with 3 different SC settings, and 3 different threshold settings. |
Re: HFS-3 Tests O.K., but No Bar.Graph During.Operation
Is FIDC referring to same as FDC jumper link test?
Are there any other tests you did the gauge actually shows flow, such as SYS test? |
Re: HFS-3 Tests O.K., but No Bar.Graph During.Operation
Yes, sorry for that, FDC Jumper Test.
I didn't find instructions for the FDC test, so just preformed the test as such: Linked the FDC test pins, Did a hard pull in 3rd gear, with multiple IDC pre-scaler configurations, then choose the configuration where the bar graph display best mimicked the actual IDC from my datalogs, which ended up being x1.00. As far as having a bar graph display during any actual flow tests. No. There was no visible bar graph during the SYS Test linking, with the threshold trimmer fully Counter Clockwise, (the LED's on the board did operate correctly with throttle) Or during the drive test with the external jet (still with the threshold trimmer fully Counter Clockwise) even though the actual flow rate change with RPM is evident. The only time the bar graph display seems to work is during the FDC test and SC calibration adjustment, but nothing on any flow testing. |
Re: HFS-3 Tests O.K., but No Bar.Graph During.Operation
Let's move on.
It appears the issue is on the flow sensor cable, please the following: 1. The compartments between the gold tabs on the RJ11 connector is not distorted 2. The sensor head is fully seated onto the flow sensor tube (engine bay side) 3. If all is well, continue... 4. remove the flow sensor assembly from the FAV by ranching from the FAV end so the sensor tube remains intact. 5. Blow gently from the inlet side (female end), let me know if whirling sound is heard. 6. If not, carefully disassembling the flow sensor and examine the internals for debris or clogged filter. 7. If whirling sound is heard, it will be a faulty flow sensor cable (yellow) or controller issue If at anytime the yellow and red harness was swapped, it would damage the controller and will need factory repair (free) |
Re: HFS-3 Tests O.K., but No Bar.Graph During.Operation
FDC test is on page 12.5

Re: HFS-3 Tests O.K., but No Bar.Graph During.Operation
Richard, sorry for the delay in response, no spare time during my work week.
Electrical connections appear fine, good contacts and I've been very careful, throughout assembly to not accidentally connect to the wrong ports in the board. As for the actual physical flow. I removed and carefully disassembled the FAV assembly. I can blow through the filter housing tube, but hear no audible whir or flutter in the air. I also then disassembled the tube assembly to reveal the E clip, removed it, but the assembly seemed fairly solidly installed into the assembly tube and didn't want to force anything without some instruction as to the actual procedure. I cannot however blow through the FAV "T" at all. Just let me know what next. Thanks. |
Re: HFS-3 Tests O.K., but No Bar.Graph During.Operation
Has the gauge ever shown any bars?
|
Re: HFS-3 Tests O.K., but No Bar.Graph During.Operation
Yes, but only with the FDC jumper test linked and the SC calibration linked.
Not during normal flow testing. |
Re: HFS-3 Tests O.K., but No Bar.Graph During.Operation
it appears to be one of the following:
1. yellow harness (sensor cable) 2. sensor jammed 3. controller. if at anytime the red and yellow cable was swapped accidentally, It will damage the part of the circuitry that decodes the flow. Can you return the above to us and we will fix/replace at no charge. Shipping address: (write "return to manufacturer for repair" or tax will be charged. Value is $10) ERL Ltd Iroko house Bolney Ave. Peacehaven East Sussex BN10 8HF England T: +44 1273 581007 F: +44 1273 581555 USPS is very reasonable. |
Re: HFS-3 Tests O.K., but No Bar.Graph During.Operation
Can do, I will have it out next weekend and let you know when it's on the way, with a note attached.
Thanks Mark |
Re: HFS-3 Tests O.K., but No Bar.Graph During.Operation
please send:
1. controller 2. flow sensor tube. |

Flow sensor tube only, no FAV T, will do. With no wiring removal, will be in the way to you tomorrow, thanks again. |
Re: HFS-3 Tests O.K., but No Bar.Graph During.Operation
No need to remove wiring, justhe controller, just flow sensor assembly.
|
Re: HFS-3 Tests O.K., but No Bar.Graph During.Operation
Richard, just making sure you got the parts, tried e-mail but no reply, and can't send you PM.
They should have been there approx 2 weeks ago, there's no tracking to England with USPS. Thanks. |
Re: HFS-3 Tests O.K., but No Bar.Graph During.Operation
I was away. will check today
|
Re: HFS-3 Tests O.K., but No Bar.Graph During.Operation
Richard, any word yet on my repair?
|
Re: HFS-3 Tests O.K., but No Bar.Graph During.Operation
Richard, it's been a month and a half since I sent those parts, is there I problem I should be aware of, or have you tried contacting me in another way besides the forum?
I don't think I missed something from my e-mail. |
Re: HFS-3 Tests O.K., but No Bar.Graph During.Operation
Tested your return yesterday. nothing wrong.
What next? |
Re: HFS-3 Tests O.K., but No Bar.Graph During.Operation
Honestly I don't know, could it be the electrical portion of the flow sensor assembly?
I know it was clipped onto the flow tube solidly, and am assuming there's no directionality to the clip itself, so that's the only thing else I can think of that would give me actual flow without relaying the info to the gauge. Is there a test that I can do to see if I'm getting the proper electrical signal through the yellow harness, from the pickup (clip) to the controller connector? Or can you send me another flow sensor yellow harness when you send my parts back, that I can try, and then send you back this one that's in the car? Thanks, and let me, Mark |
Re: HFS-3 Tests O.K., but No Bar.Graph During.Operation
Richard, it's been a week with no response, have you sent my parts back, and are you sending me another yellow harness and clip, or is there a way to test this one without the flow tube assembly I sent you.
Please get back with me, I'd really like to get this settled before my winter sets in. If you need my return address I'll e-mail it to you. Mark. |
Re: HFS-3 Tests O.K., but No Bar.Graph During.Operation
Richard, I really don't understand being ignored on this, and why I can't can't even get a response to what seems to be a Very Simple question?
It was bad enough that it took 2 full months from the time you received my parts, to get them tested. But now I can't get a simple answer as to when they are being shipped back to me, and if there is a way to test the Flow Tube Clip, before my Flow Tube and Controller gets back to me. These delays are now jeopardizing a late Nov tuning session (which I would have never thought would be a problem considering this started in early Aug.) Please send my parts back asap. Mark |
Re: HFS-3 Tests O.K., but No Bar.Graph During.Operation
Well Richard, it's been another week with absolutely no communication, you've answered other threads no problem, just not mine.
At this point it's just plain inconsiderate and completely unwarranted. If you're waiting for a part or something, to send back with, or in place of my originals, why not just say so. My tuner is only in the states one month out of the year, so not only am I going to have to revert back to remote tuning, but this delay is also costing me my down payment. (which could have been refunded had you only given me a heads up, but now it's too late) |
Re: HFS-3 Tests O.K., but No Bar.Graph During.Operation
Mr BlownAway,
(Order# 103119@16.3.2018) Did you revceived my email regarding the cost of return shipping cost? We do not charge for repair or inspection. But you have to pay the return shipping. Just in case, here is the shipping cost: Fedex: £32.00 UKPS: £12.50 Paypal Payment: sales@aquamist.co.uk Richard |
Re: HFS-3 Tests O.K., but No Bar.Graph During.Operation
No, as stated in my many posts, no communication at all.
This could have easily been sorted weeks ago with a simple response in the thread, or letting me know this up front, I would have sent it the day you received or checked my parts. Payment will be sent right away. |
Re: HFS-3 Tests O.K., but No Bar.Graph During.Operation
Payment sent £32.00 for FedEx shipping along with the return address via PayPal.

Re: HFS-3 Tests O.K., but No Bar.Graph During.Operation
Will be shipped tomorrow.
Question, has the gauge ever showed flow? |
Re: HFS-3 Tests O.K., but No Bar.Graph During.Operation
No, the gauge has only shown bar graph display when in testing mode such as injector pulse and IDC pre-scale test. Never during normal flow operation.
This is why I said what I did in post #22, if the controller and flow tube are working correctly, the only other part involved, as far as I'm aware of, is the flow sensor clip and it's wiring harness. Which is also why I asked if testing the flow clip and harness was possible without having the clip connected to the flow tube. I know that I should be able to check the signal voltage from the clip to the plug once it's reinstalled onto the flow tube, but thought if it could be checked prior to me getting these parts back, another clip and wiring harness could be sent right away with the parts you are already sending back. If it is possible to test the clip without the tube, please let me know, I can do the testing right away, if not I'll just test it once I get my parts back. Mark |
Re: HFS-3 Tests O.K., but No Bar.Graph During.Operation
I will retest everything before shipping.
|
Re: HFS-3 Tests O.K., but No Bar.Graph During.Operation
Please do, as I stated earlier, I could blow through the flow tube no problem, but could hear no audible whir or flutter in the sound of the air passing through the tube.
Mark |
Re: HFS-3 Tests O.K., but No Bar.Graph During.Operation
Received the shipping info via e-mail, thanks.
|
Re: HFS-3 Tests O.K., but No Bar.Graph During.Operation
I have sent you an entire new FAV+flow tube assembly and your controller. Let me know how you get on.
|
Re: HFS-3 Tests O.K., but No Bar.Graph During.Operation
Excellent, will do.
|
Re: HFS-3 Tests O.K., but No Bar.Graph During.Operation
Got the parts this afternoon, install and testing will be Sat.
Thanks |
Re: HFS-3 Tests O.K., but No Bar.Graph During.Operation
Interest if the system still shows no bars. Everything function was tested OK here, included the gauge showing bars.
|
Re: HFS-3 Tests O.K., but No Bar.Graph During.Operation
Richard, sorry for the delay, bad Cam pushed me back a week.
Don't know what the issue "was", but everything is working correctly with the new parts you sent me. I'd be happy to send you the old FAV and tube if you'd like. Just let me know. Thanks Mark |
Re: HFS-3 Tests O.K., but No Bar.Graph During.Operation
I didn't send you any new parts. all I did was testing the parts you sent me.
