Aquamist 3 issues
Hey folks! This is my first time on a forum so be nice 😁
I have recently fitted an aquamist 3 kit on to my naturally aspirated BMW 323i E36. - I have the intention to turbo the car, hence fitting the kit. My issues are as follows: I have a green IDC light in the control unit, however no light on the gauge. When the car is revved the relay clicks constantly whilst water injection is engaged and the "B" light flickers with it too. I have no red bars showing on my gauge whatsoever. - I have tested the gauge by moving the pin in the controller and it worked fine then. When the water does inject, the water level light comes on momentarily after even though there is adequate water in the tank. One note to mention is that when I bought the kit, annoyingly the cables (fav, water sensor, and tank water level) had been cut. All of which are correctly reconnected in accordance with the wiring diagram included with the kit. Perhaps the resistance of the cables could upset it? I am eager to get the kit working so any advice or pointers would be super helpful! 😊 |
Re: Aquamist 3 issues
You may have reversed the two wires to the fuel injector
|
Re: Aquamist 3 issues
I did try reversing the cables just in case but it makes the whole guage flicker.. The IDC light is working okay in the control unit so I think they are the right way round.. I will double check tomorrow though

Re: Aquamist 3 issues
Can you tell me what version is the controller or serial number.
|
Re: Aquamist 3 issues
It a HFS3v3 - pwm
|
Re: Aquamist 3 issues
I've changed the wires over too and it just makes the relay click constantly and the 's' and 'b' flash...

There are 3- test points on the controller, do you have a digital voltage meter so you can help with the diagnostic work. |
Re: Aquamist 3 issues
Yea I have a multimeter, I'll send you the serial number as soon as I'm back home Thanks :)

Re: Aquamist 3 issues
What is the serial number?
|
Re: Aquamist 3 issues
Sorry for the delay, I had trouble getting on here... The serial number is: 101286

Re: Aquamist 3 issues
😊 Hoping to get it fixed soon, be nice to have it running properly...

Re: Aquamist 3 issues
This system was made in March 2013. It should work with your BMW without and problem. It is a version 2.
Please tell me some brief history of the system. |
Re: Aquamist 3 issues
It was previously fitted on a turbo focus, when it was removed it had all cables cut (fav, water level and flow meter) All of which I've rejoined.. the guage lead was intact. The system has been primed and I've tested the guage by moving the jumper and it lit up okay...

Re: Aquamist 3 issues
When you performed the SYS test, did the gauge showed any flow bars?
|
Re: Aquamist 3 issues
Yea, and when I adjusted the screw I could fill the guage with more bars
|
Re: Aquamist 3 issues
I'm going to try testing the water level sensor today just incase...

Re: Aquamist 3 issues
On the previous Focus installation, did you get any relay clicks?
I think the issue is your injector circuit and power circuit. I don't it is a HFS3 issue. Can you check your fuel injectors have resistor pack? To check this, just remove the thin red wire of the grey harness and connect it to a known steady 12V supply. If the click gores away. The issue is caused by the resistor pack. A pulsed 12V supply will cause the relay to click. Does this make sense? |
Re: Aquamist 3 issues
The relay constantly clicks definitely. That sounds like the isssue.. I'll give it a crack and get back to you :)
|
Re: Aquamist 3 issues
I don't think you have taken in what I was trying to tell you. An unstable 12V from the red wire of the grey harness will cause the relay to click. It is a wiring issue, nothing to do with the HFS3.

Re: Aquamist 3 issues
So sorry would I need to move the red lead to somewhere else if it is pulsed? Sorry for not being a bit more clued up with this :/ I've just wired it up according to the wiring diagram..

Re: Aquamist 3 issues
Which wiring diagram?
|

This is the wiring diagram I used.. I wired the two cables into the fuel injector, the green IDC light flashes inside the control unit. But not on the guage...
I don't know if the photo uploaded properly so here's the link where I found the wiring diagram: http://www.aquamist.co.uk/HFS3/manual/HFS3-v3.0w.pdf |
Re: Aquamist 3 issues
The diagram is used for a conventional fuel injection system, but it doesn't appear to work on your car so I suggest a few alternatives.
If you carry out my suggestion above, we will move forward. |
Re: Aquamist 3 issues
Right,
I've moved the red lead to a pre-crank 12v+ and the relay clicking has now gone away! Thanks for the advice! However I'm still not getting any red bars on the guage for idle/amount of water being pumped in.. When I rev it, I get the B light flashes then go out as the revs drop back down.. I'm still stuck how to fix this :/ I have the green wire from the grey harness wired into the brown/white lead off the fuel injector. The engine is an M52.. |

Right, 😊

I'm still stuck how to fix this :/ The green wire from the grey harness is wired into the Brown/white lead off of the fuel injector. The engine is an M52 if that helps. I have also noticed some minor corrosion to one of the 3 pins on the black FAV assembly that plugs into the valve.. |
