Spraying at the IC exit will give the mix a chance to distribute, and will also be a large place for fluids to gather if you spray too much. It will eventually evaporate, but will keep fluid out of the more expensive parts above. I lost an IAC for almost the same reason you did. I had a TMIC that was a 45 degree bend from the TB, with the nozzle in the middle of the bend. I for some stupid reason used my test button and then shut off the car a few seconds later. Car sat all weekend and that Monday got nothing. Got the car back 1 month and 30,000 yen later.
