fuel methanol
The methanol I buy is to the best of my knowledge 100% methanol. It is sold from the drum at a local speed shop for racers that run in race classes which allow methanol fuel. I think the last I bought went for $2.25 / gal.
If it had gasoline in it, I should have seen it settle out when I mix it with water. If you're not sure, the low tech fuel test to check for alcohol mixed with gasoline is to take an old baby bottle, put about 50 ml water in it, and then add 50 ml of the fuel. Shake for about 15 seconds and then let it stand. If it has gasoline and alcohol mixed, they should separate out into layers. If its pure alcohol you'll end up with slightly less than 100 ml of mixture and no separation. If it has gasoline in it at say 15% you should end up with about 1.5 ml layer of gasoline. Larry |

The best solution is a mixture of 97% methanol and 3% isobuthanol... to keep safe. This mixture smells and you won't never have troubles in any different usage.
More than 10 years ago we were already trying methanol in Italy... but some stupid people used it also mixing it with wine and many people died for that. BE CAREFUL WITH PURE METHANOL PLEASE!!!!! Regards Prometeus |
