Default Homemade water injection kit......

Hey guys, I'd like to sharre some info on my homemade WI kit....Very simple but effective.

Quick rundown-

Car = 89 Ford Mustang
Engine = low compression 306ci w/ a Vortech Strim @14 psi (non-innercooled)

I am using this temp meter :

Omega HH12

Here's the WI kit rundown-

-Hobbs switch

-Alum tank

-NOS solonoid/and paper fuel filter

-NOS Nozzle

-Various braided/teflon line, and fittings ect...

More Pics:

Here's some #'s:
Now for boost, i was only concerned with intake temps, so i measured at the throttle body with 14psi and 91 octane...

I made 5 verifying runs per test, just to get more info...

Under 14 psi, i saw between 243-251 degrees, respectivley. NO WATER

With the water turned on, (.034 jet) i saw temp drops in the 20 degree range. About 230-234, respectivley. Not too bad, but come on....LOL

A trip to the local parts store got me some more jets..Next up was a .044 and boy did it work..Again 5 runs with no water @ 14psi, and all were around 250 degrees...Flipped the water on, and made 5 passes to back it up....All 5 water runs were in the 180 degree range ! Thats a drop of 70 degrees.

Sweet!

I only logged 1 time and that was last weekend. I plan on a lot more tuning....Running 14psi with no cooling and crappy 91 octane is always fun...LOL

I have not taken the car to the Dyno or track,(with the water) but i will soon. My best time at the track is a 10.98 @ 128.

Thanks,
Miles

So what was the total cost and time spent making this? And do you have any thoughts of trying a water/methanol mix? I am very new to WI, so I am full of questions; but it seems very intersting.

I would say total cost is in the $80-$100 range...My buddy welded the tank for me (out of scrap alum), and the most expensive part was the NOS solonoid....

I have not tried any meth/mix yet, but i am definately going to mess with it...

One thing to remember, i am using boost to force the water into the blower..To inject water into the intake (pressurized) i would need a pump, ect...This is more crude, but seems to work well for an experiment....LOL

I would like to see your results from that nite. Am I understanding this right? The pressure developed from your supercharger is pressurizing your WI? Are you using anything to shut the system down in case you run out of water?

I do not have any safety stuff on it....But i drive this car mainly on weekends and such, so i watch it like a hawk....LOL Im not sure how much water it holds, but while i was testing we drove the car hard for about 3 hrs and the tank went down like 1/2".....

I never went to the track, because i found out My harness is now past its legal date.....uggh. Sucks but i gotta pass tech to run....

And yes you are right, i am using boost pressure to pressurize the tank, wich forces water into the blower through a NOS nozzle...

I had a similar setup many years ago on a Kawasaki750 turbo. Non-intercooled aircooled engine running high boost brrrr.....
Boost pressure was pushing water mist just before the compressor wheel.
Worked well, but was heavy on water usage!

I'm not sure, but shouldn't you be carefull with methanol in an Aluminum
tank? Methanol corrodes aluminum, you don't want that stuff in your engine. Or am I mistaken?

BTW, awsome looking work, very pro indeed! :!:

Default Filter, nozzle

I had a paper filter disolve in water/alchohol. Keep an eye on it. At least, you have a clear filter. So, you can watch it.

Have you tried the Carr/McMaster nozles? that's what I use on my homemade system.
