Default Ultimate first post

Hello from Canada.

First my car, then my issues.

2007 Ford Mustang
stroked and forged 4.9 liter with stage 3 heads.
full bolt ons
D1SC procharger with 800 HP intercooler pushing 20 PSI
Division X 1200HP return style fuel system with ID 1000 injectors

T56 Manual gear box

I installed HFS-3 after I data logged and noticed my IATs were getting up to 186 degrees after a pass a the track in the top of fourth gear.

Adding the kit and installing 2 1mm jets right before the throttle body really helped. I also relocated the IAT sensor into the number 5 intake runner.

IATs dropped to low 100s which is great, but after a month I started getting trouble codes indicating throttle body issues, then the car would not start.

After a lot of trouble shooting I discovered water had gotten into the motor assembly of the throttle body and corroded everything in there...ultimately destroying my throttle body.

Now according to my jet calculations

Injectors are 1000cc x 8 =8000x0.12 (70/30) = 960cc

1.0mm at 140 PSI = 456cc...so times 2 = 900cc approx..

SO I don't think I'm over spraying. I think my nozzle placement may be too close to the throttle body.

can anyone shed some light here to help me? I don't want to wreck another throttle body

thanks in advance

This is where my jets are spraying. this piece bolts onto the throttle body.

Here is the water/meth that has corroded my motor assembly

Can you send me a picture of the engine bay.

I never advise a TB install to avoid this type of problem from happening. The best location is at the exit of IC. If you don't have an IC, the exit of the S/C snail should be good also.

Lets have a look of your engine bay geometry and discuss.

nozzles are on the underside of the chrome inlet 90 right before the throttle body, and yes I have an IC. MAF is blow thru on the downstream side of the IC

I can see the OE throttle body is not a sealed unit and not intended to experience boost pressure. Small gaps within will allow some minor air leaks pass all the components. This means moisture will be introduced into the TB mechanism every time the system sprays. I cannot see a quick solution to your current problem other than smearing some thick grease on it and also spray the internals with WD40 which will repel surface water deposited during spray.

Possible solutions:
1. Does Mustang have a OE throttle body designed for SC applications?
2. What about spraying after the TB?
3. Relocate the jets at the exit of the IC.

Spray at the TB is by far the worse case scenario because the water mist does not have enough time to mix with the charge air properly and form a suspended droplet entity before plastering themselves onto the TB assembly.

Spraying at the IC exit will give the mix a chance to distribute, and will also be a large place for fluids to gather if you spray too much. It will eventually evaporate, but will keep fluid out of the more expensive parts above. I lost an IAC for almost the same reason you did. I had a TMIC that was a 45 degree bend from the TB, with the nozzle in the middle of the bend. I for some stupid reason used my test button and then shut off the car a few seconds later. Car sat all weekend and that Monday got nothing. Got the car back 1 month and 30,000 yen later.

so here is where I put the nozzles.

2 bends after the IC im wondering if im too close to the MAF now. When I let off and the surge valve opens I don't want to draw unspent water acorss my MAF.

thoughts?

BTW the MAF is on top of the IC just in front of the exit tube.

Here is a better layout...ignore the MAF being in tube G. I made notes on the pic

You will be moving the MAF to the intercooler? Is it to avoid getting wet by the spray?

no the pic is from the instructions and is old, Procharger has since moved the MAF to the intercooler on the discharge side, where I drew the x on the pic.

So you have now moved both jets nearer to the IC? As in the latest picture.
