Default E39 M5 wiring issue

I purchased a used HFS-3 controller and trunk tank/pump. I followed the E39 M5 wiring guide listed on the forum.

ECU cable positive(red) to 6824 fuse #2 (red with white stripe)
ECU cable negative(green) to 60003 to pin 33

The 4 pin molex cable has switched power coming from a dedicated fuse on the fuse panel, with two different grounds picked in the glove compartment area.

The IDC light on the controller flashes and flashes faster as the engine RPM goes up. With the threshold set as low as possible, I can trigger a jet to start spraying at a low engine RPM -- this is all as expected.

The problem doesn't really crop up until roughly ~5k RPM (with the engine red line at 7k). Once over 5k RPM, with the controller powered up, and the ECU cable plugged in, the AFR starts to progressively lean out as the RPM goes up. By 6k RPM, I'm at ~13 AFR, instead of the expected ~12.2 AFR. If I unplug the ECU harness from the controller, my AFR stays at a ~12.2 up to red line.

I'm using Bosch 42lb 440cc high-impedance fuel injectors in my engine. No ECU tuning has taken place yet, so if I wired this up correctly, I would expect the AFR to get progressively richer as IDC increases.

I have a Zeitronix ZT-2 installed in my car - it's currently tied into the #1 ignition coil, throttle position sensor, a manifold pressure sensor and a wideband sensor.

What troubleshooting steps can I take to resolve this issue? Can I switch to a pure 2.5 bar MAP trigger, with out tying into my fuel injectors?

Thank you in advance for any light you can shed on this!
