pre turbo injection installed
finally I installed additionall nozle before turbo, in addition to intake nozzle. Engine is ca18det, 444cc fuel injectors, T3 turbo, FMIC. Pre turbo nozzle is 2.8GPH size, feeded by 150psi shurflo pump. Nozzle position is just before compressor intake (about 10cm before comp. wheel), nozzle is angle mounted, directed water flow to middle of comp. wheel (no turns or wall in water stream). Injected mixture is 80%water to 20% ethanol.
Intake nozzle already significantly moved knock treshold away, so Im interesting how pre turbo injection will work. What can be interesting, I will test lower octane fuel (95RON instead of current 98RON), as with 98RON I must advance ignition really much to avoid missfiring and still can go to 1.2bar (with 98 fuel) without audible knocking with single nozzle at intake. My idea is that with 95octane fuel I will be still out of knock area at this boost level (specially with additional pre turbo nozzle) and get better (more advanced) ignition timing opposite to 98octane fuel. At least it can save money for unneccessary expansive fuel... Some driving results will come later today... Radovan EDIT: forgot to say that I have no second check valve yet (ordered already), so I use one check valve for both nozzles. Intake nozzle is fine, becouse it is just few cm away from check valve, but pre turbo nozzle is about 1m away from check valve, so after pump is shut off, pre turbo nozzle continue to deliver small amount of water until 1m of hose is empty. Do you think that this can be problem for turbo or I can using it until second check valve arrive? Thanks |
How did this work out?

update:
Second check valve was added just before pre-compressor jet. This jet is located very close to compressor inlet (as close as was possible, about 10cm) and aiming into the centre of compressor. I didnt noticed any damage to compressor blades until now and already put nice few litres of water/alc. into the engine... |

sdminus, it looks like confusion, I wrote that I didnt have any damage or problems with turbo...

are... sorry i have a heavy cold and i think i am going mental as well.....
What nozzel do you use pre turbo Scott |
it is smallest coolingmist injector, they declared them in horsepower range, this one is up to 215hp, I believe that it is about 0.4mm nozzle....Running at 150psi shulfro pump, activated at about 1bar of boost. Second injector before TB is range up to 360hp, I think it is around 0.6mm, but Im really not sure about size.

Do you feel the difference once it starts injecting?

very hard to say, with curently used boost pressure (1.3bar) Im affraid to turn off WI, so newer tested it without. WI comes on on about 1.1bar, where boost rise very rapidly, so again, I cant feel some kind of power efect from water. But my little undersized turbo (garrett T3 super 60 with ca18det) holds 1.3bar stable, didnt noticed knock, but never really log inlet temps or EGT.
Im just preparing wideband lambda for final fine adjustment of AFR, which is probably still too much rich, what can add some power gain. Final target is about 1.4bar, Im hoping that I can achieve this with current 444cc injectors thanks to WI leaner AFR... |
The injectors are big enough.
You don't need to run filthy rich with water injection anyway, anything over 12:1 is robbing power. Post some pictures of your setup if you can :D |
yes, I know this fact about AFR, that is reason for investment to wideband lambda. I dont think that now its really rich, but I will do my best to obtain AFR at 12:1 - 12.5:1.
I will be really happy to post results and pictures on this well respected forum, will do ASAP. Thank for advices. Radovan |
