Direct water injection on 2005 WRC
The latest water direct injection is being use don the latest 05 subaru WRC car. Looks good and it also wins reces. (Maxico this month)

There has been a lot of work between Prodrive and Sti - I was kept pretty much in the dark, so nothing to report , sorry.

It said, "The new water injection system is able to deliver precisely the right amount of water to each of the four cylinders and is a significant improvement over the previous unit."
But I don't see "direct" injection. So, would it be some kind of port injection like sequential fuel injection? I saw 2 suspicious metal rails across the manifold runner, maybe... Below that, in the right side where we can see, there seems another rail for fuel... Or that's for water & the upper ones for fuel? If this picture is against any policy, please let me know. Then I'll delete it right away.

BTW, is there any advantage to install the turbo vertically?
Except for lower the exhaust pipe routing?

It's basicaly been forced to be that way by the need to fit the preturbocharger combuster into the exhaust system, and also clear the engine subframe / steering rack etc. I wouldn't recommend this position on a road car, because the turbine oil seal is piston ring type seal, that only works when the turbo is spinning, so when you key off a small amount of oil will dribble into the exhaust (not a problem for a race / rally car) |
