View Full Version : Heatsoaked intercoolers, pre intercooler injection?.

I`ve read on here a few times that post IC injection is prefered because the IC is more efficient with a higher temp diferential between the ambient air going around it and the hot charge going through it which is fair enough. The problem I`m having though is my IC`s are heatsoaking after hard back to back runs.

At the moment my setup consists of 6x0.3mm nozzles in a port injection setup, I`ve bought a bigger pump to supply more flow and I`m adding 2 more nozzles to my system (twin turbo), probably 1mm jets. I`m leaning on the side of fitting the jets just after the turbos to give maximum time in the airflow to cool it and also to help the IC`s out. First tests will be with a 50/50 water meth mix but if the car bogs badly due to overwatering I`ll got 75%meth and then 100%, trimming the fuel to suit.

Before I got hacking away at my car I`d just like to here and obvious negative points on going for pre-IC injection and also if anyone`s running it at the moment?.

Cheers, Keith.

Keith,

One thing I'd consider is the different mixes that are optimal for each location.

In-cylinder cooling works best with more water, while charge cooling works better with more methanol.

So you might hit trade-offs pretty quickly, one hand giveth, other hand taketh away.

Why not use a different pump/mix for the intercooling jets? This way you can even have different activation points as well.

I agree, if you already have two pumps, run one for each, and maybe even spray the outside of the IC.

That`s not a bad idea, I could use the Aquamist pump to supply water only port injected and use the Shurflo pump for injecting a Methanol mix post turbo.

At the moment I`ve got a 1mm jet to the rear turbo outlet, a 0.8mm jet on the front turbo outlet and the port injection setup. I`ve not had chance to drive it after the changes but total volume of water/metanol will be around the 1400cc/min region.

Will let you know how I get on after I`ve had a chance to tune and play around with the mixtures.
