Hi, I have just brought a patrol with a tb42 carb dual fuel. the motor is still quite fresh but the economy is around 20l/100km - costly.

what i am thinking is to increace the economy i can bolt on a turbo from the td42 and run it straight through the carb with a view to having a lean mix.

my question is this; if i fit a WI system that kicks in at say 0.3bar will i eliminate any pre detonation?

(I would prefer to run just one fuel (i.e. remove the gas or petrol) but that fuel could be petrol, ethanol or lpg - i just want to save some fuel)

thanks in advance

Increasing the compression ratio of the engine will certainly improve the efficiency of the engine. In your case, adding a turbo.

If you can keep engine knock in control with water injection and at the same time a leaner mixture and more advanced timing, you will gain economy for sure.

Thanks for your reply Richard.

Whould you have a guess at a boost level?

its a 4.2 petrol carb engine - what nozzle size would you start out with?

ulp
mj/l 34.8 $/l 1.41 $/mj 0.040
ethanol
mj/l 21.2 $/l 1.39 $/mj 0.065
lpg
mj/l 25.3 $/l 0.7 $/mj 0.027

i knocked up the above table to compare fuels and inteperate it to mean lpg would be best for economy.

thanks
