STEAM or WATER Injection ?

Hello Guys,

I have been thinking long about this and I am still not convinced which infact is the best overall when used in a gasoline forced-induction engine, in Terms of :

- Fuel Economy - Which of them has the "power" to work with the least AFR at full load?

- Air Temperature Reduction - Which of them is better in heat dissipation without reducing engine air breathing?

- Pre-Ignition / Detonation prevention - Which of them is the best safety measure?


I want to keep it as simple as possible. No alcohol can be used here and we are not taking into consideration that steam might be more expensive to run.

Flr Power, I know water injection is simple than steam injection and it works. I already made the statement on the first post.

The reason for this thread is to discuss water and steam injection pros & cons.

There are articles that mention only steam injection (not all related to auto-engines). Is it maybe there is a considerable advantage over water only ?

Steam injection when done right give more power if engine is safe tune.
Past 5 years i.ve had 2 flat tappets cams wear last year power valve leak bad on cam breakin. Wash cly out.
hopefully start step by step how too steam injection thread this year.

pro- use less water con -building heat exchanger pro- Aquamist systems too control flow. Which is even more critical with steam.

Did you begin with steam injection or you have also tried water injection ?about 35hp. no way of checking air temps or afrs. small boiler on exhaust gravity feed by .030 jet 26 inchs water pressure 3/16 break line to intake. 351c 9.5 comp. pump gas. 30 degre timeing back too back runs no timeing changeing gtech meter.

Forced induction or aspirated?

Aspirated. 650 carb 4v single plane intake small cam 215@.050 4v valves 2v heads, header, home port job. 325hp without steam, 360 with steam @6krpm. This year same everything but better exhaust. cam 4 degree advanced instead of -4 as before.

You say 325bhp without steam and 360bhp with steam.....

- Are these on a dyno?
- If yes, a graph worth a million !
- When testing the steam effect..... igntion timing, cam timing, fuel etc.. all is left as it is ?

used gtech meter. ignition timing, cam timing, fuel etc.. all is left as it is yes.

Cam lobe wore out in that engine. The next build the power valve leaked on cam breakin 5 minutes into it blowing blue smoke out the tail pipes. I no longer use carbs with power valves. Don't have money for fuel injection.

Could explain what did you used for the steam injection setup?

See my #7 post in this thread. Simple gravity feed boiler with reservoir mounted on firewall solenoid turning on .030 jet too boiler. I never ran carb booster venturi feed setup.
