Default Nozzle Placement -Before or after recirculation valve?

Hi

I am running a Subaru EJ25 engine with front mount intercooler.

I understand that it would be great if we can place the nozzle as far as possible from throttle body (optimal evaporization). Infact, I was planning to place the nozzle right after the FMIC. But this would mean that the nozzle would be placed before the recirculation valve (recirculation valve is only approx 4" away from the throttle body).

1) Is it safe to place the nozzle before the recirculation valve?

2) I understand that the Water/Alcohol may be recirculated back to the air intake (into turbo).
Anyone forsee any issues?

Thanks.

due to the amount of time that the BPV is actually open i sincerely doubt you'd ever have issues with recirculating that tiny bit of ADI that may be present.

You'd only inject water/meth under boost
Given the airflow numbers involved under those conditions, I would regard as insignificant the quantities of water/methanol likely to be trapped as the throttle is shut.

As for some traces of water mist or methanol being recirculated through the compressor, you'd be surprised at how much of it is deliberately sprayed straight at the compressor wheels by some of us.
Not likely to be an issue

That is a very common location for folks to place the nozzle, (several have placed them in the outlet tube for the intercooler), and no reported problems I am aware of.

You should have no issues with that setup for all the reasons mentioned so far.

Thanks for all the replies. I hv proceeded with the installation right after intercooler (well before the recirculation valve). So far so good.

Yesterday, I injected 2 litres of water over 15mins at idle (steam clean engine). Wonder if anyone else has done something like this before? ops:

Also, with 50:50 methanol mix, we should be aiming for 12:1 for peak power.

What is the AFR we should aim for during peak torque? 11.5:1?

Not using WI but that was a common shade tree mechanic tune up technique back in the 1950's and 1960's to blow all the carbon build up out of a high compression engine. We would hold the engine at a fast idle and pour water down the carburator as fast as it would accept it. A couple pints worth was not uncommon. You did not do any harm I suspect ---- tell everyone it was intentional

Those AFR's would be reasonable targets but only the dyno knows for sure!

Well, the strange thing is the car feels bit more perky after the ...'steam cleaning'.

i would go leaner than that. hell i run high 11s--close to 12:1--on plain old 93 octane pump gas.

i'd aim for mid to mid high 12s on 50/50.

again, assuming a 50/50 meth/h2o mix, injected at around 15% total fuel delivery rate, i would say 12.5 is plenty rich.
