Default could methanol cause engine damage?

Just been reading "Forced induction performance tuning" by A. G. Bell.

He mentions that methanol will leave white deposits on anything aluminium - basically it corrodes the ali, the white deposits are aluminium oxide (I think).

He goes on to say that this can corrode the piston ring lands, the piston rings and bore wall by washing away lubricant.

So my question: does any one have any more info on this? Any real life experience of methanol causing problems?

Cheers
Jez

Default aluminum and methanol

That is only a problem if the aluminum is continuously wetted by the methanol. That sort of issue was seen in carburators converted to run methanol, as the the float bowls were constantly filled with fuel.

No it should not be a problem except for the fuel system itself and the WI system itself that is full of liquid all the time.

Anodized aluminum does not have that problem as I understand it. I am using anodized aluminum AN fittings on my WI system and have seen no corrosion to date.

Default

a guy with a dodge cummings(running 12s) had water injection that he home made. i asked him what mixture he was running and he said only water, methanol leaves deposits if you use it frequently. the trick, he said, was to wash it out with pure water injection every now and then.

methanol destroys most fuel lines(whch i thin are nylon) whch is why the less efficient ethanol is mixed into your gas at the pump.
